Given a multislice CT data set of the lung, there are commercial packages that allow emphysema quantification. For research purposes, does anyone know of an open-source for this quantification or has an in-house software and wants to test it in another center for validation?
You can use Airway Inspector which is open source and available at www.airwayinspector.org . A recent publication in CHEST using Airway Inspector to quantitate emphysema is available from the PMC library. OsiriX 32-bit is a free open source DICOM viewer (you have to pay for the 64 bit version). To quantify emphysema you should apply a lung segmentation and then calculate lung attenuation distribution parameters.
