In theory, it can be replaced.
Its working principle is based on the abnormal activation of specific β-galactosidase in senescent cells and the substrate color reaction. X-gal, a synthetic β-galactosidase substrate, is colorless in itself, but it undergoes a hydrolysis reaction under the catalysis of β-galactosidase, and the product is further oxidized and dimerized to form an insoluble blue precipitate. However, this method is pH-specific, so be careful to adjust the pH to 6.0.
