I`m wanna create a multi temporal map of built up areas in different time spans to show the urban sprawl trend in one layer. There are NDBI layers with a specific range which covers all features in the study area from residential to vegetated areas. The point is this : How can I extract the exact boundaries of built up areas ? any known threshold ? ?
And having multiple mono band rasters is it possible to combine them so that a multi band layer is created ?

In R statistical software, use function stack() from package 'raster' for combining several raster layers to one multilayer raster.
About the question related to the threshold of built-up areas: I think we need more information about the raster data you have to answer this question.
