Does anyone know how calcium FLEX station detects the fluorescence from a 96 well plate?

I am trying to find information on, precisely how the FLEX station detects Fluorescence from a single 96 well. Various suggestions I have come across; single excitation beam and emission detected from the centre of the well, five excitation beams leading to detecting five emissions which are averaged and an average arbitrary unit provided for the well? Does anyone have any clear idea of how the numbers on the Software are generated from the FLEX station? Any articles explaining this would be very useful.
