We are sampling waste water and would like to analyse its chemical composition (most importantly phosphate, nitrate, ammonia, nitrite, sulfate) by ion chromatography. However, we need to store the sample (possibly for a few weeks) before we can do that. How should we proceed? I thought about adding a drop of chloroform and placing the samples in the fridge. Does that make sense? I heard that freezing is not a good idea as some chemicals can precipitate in the process.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions!
