Mientras tengas el documento activo en las herramientas de Google (Chrome, Drive) siempre estará en su formato. La única opción que tiene para conservar los datos sin perder funcionalidad es descargar utilizando las opciones que ofrece el menú Archivo.

As long as you have the document active in Google tools (Chrome, Drive) it will always be in its format. The only option you have to preserve the data without losing functionality is to download using the options offered by the File menu.
