We are trying to let a program automatically recognize cells entering prophase in life cell imaging, therefore we search a good marker. Does by chance anyone have one in mind?
I forgot to specify originally that, in order to get prophase cells in particular (and not later stages of mitosis), you should ask your program to require that the two spindle pole spots should be equal to or less than a certain maximum distance from each other. You would have to determine this threshold parameter experimentally, and/or find reasonable estimates in published literature. Perhaps that was obvious but I just wanted to be extra clear!
