I am doing the molecular characterization of Plasmodium species in the area of Kedougou (Senegal) and I would like to have some more information about the MSP-1 gene (chromosome location, allelic diversity).
msp-1 and msp-2 gene are best characterised genes for P. falciparum, specially to assess the genetic diversity, multiclone infections and in therapeutic efficacy study to differentiate fresh infection with recrudescence. If you go through the literature, I am sure you would find huge publications. This gene is located on chromosome 9 in Pf. I would suggest you may use one of my earlier publication

MSP 1 of Plasmodium falciparum is a one-exon gene encoding merozoite surface protein, located at the chromosome 9 (1201802-1206964). It consists of 17 blocks: 5 conserved, 5 semi-conserved and 7 variable blocks. Block 2 was found polymorphic and falls into three allelic families: K1, RO33 and MAD20. MSP1-block2, together with MSP2-block 3, is considered one of the excellent tool for analyzing Plasmodium falciparum parasites structure; frequency of different allelic families, MOI and Heterozygosity in a population as well as in clinical drug efficacy trials.
You can find a lot on any gene for any parasite from this link: "NCBI database"
