This insect is one of the most important stem borers of poplar nurseries in Iran (especially in the north of Iran) . I studied the biology of this pest . If you have any questions about this , I am willing to cooperate .
I know two natural enemies (parasites) of P. tabaniformis in literature:
Moraal,L.G. : Apanteles evonymellae fauna n.sp.,een nieuwe parasitoid van de populiereglasvlinder,Paranthrene tabaniformis(Hymenoptera:Braconidae; Lepidoptera:
Sesiidae) - Ent.Ber.Amst.47(9):137-139,1987.
Moraal,L.G. : TeIenomus phalaenarum fauna nov.spec.,als eiparasitoid van de populiereglasvlinder,Paranthrene tabaniformis (Hym.:Scelionidae;Lep.:Sesiidae) -
Ent.Ber.Amst.49:65-68,1989.
I hope this information is useful for you. With kind regards Yours Thomas Witt
Mansour, can you post a good image of the adult moth you are speaking of. Not an image taken off of the internet or illustrated by other researchers, as these other images are of unknown or unconfirmed location source. Are you absolutely positive that the species you are referring to is actually Paranthrene tabaniformis ? Has any taxonomical work been done on the Sesiidae of Iran, or this particular species in the past ? I also take tabaniformis here in my state of Louisiana, USA. And I have collected sesiids here every day of every year since 1970, so I have a bit of experience with this group. Attached is one of many of my publications on Sesiidae, this one has an image of the phenotype of Paranthrene tabaniformis that I capture here in Louisiana.
