I am looking into purchasing a low end vibratome to cut fixed brain tissue. What models would you suggest? We used to buy from Leica, but they discontinued their low end model. Has anybody used the the Lafayette/Campden 5000mz or 5100mz vibratome? How is their service in the US?
I do not have experience with Lafayette/Campden vibrating microtome, but I suggest you could contac EMS (electron microscope science) and see EMS tissue slicer:

I have worked with an old manual setting model, but think the new one of improved electonic control of oscilattion velocity, blade postion, thickness, temperature of tray solution are very helpfull to get uniform sections.
I now actually have experience with two Campden 5000mz vibratomes and cannot recommend getting this piece of equipment at all. Both of these vibratomes broke within a year and customer support is terrible. We did what we could to repair them ourselves and they are somewhat functioning but the tissue quality and surface smoothness is just as terrible as the Campden customer service.
