I need describe the kinematic behavior of the discretized 3D surface of a wing based on data of displacements and rotations of its elastic axis (obtained by means of a beam finite element formulation). I know that there can be several ways to do that, the main decisions would be: a) is if it would be convenient to obtain an analytical function for the elastic axis or use interpolation and keep the curve piecewise linear and b) which algorithm to use to calculate the distance from a point on the surface to a point on the elastic axis with minimum cost.
