I am a PhD student using qualitative research methodology. I am collecting web-mediated data from webpages and social media (Twitter / Facebook), to analyse in Nvivo 10. However, I need to edit the captured information and Nvivo doesn't allow me to do this. Any tips and suggestions will be appreciated.
With NVivo, you can use NCapture to download streams from facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Data are retrieved as tables (than can be exported as Excel tables if needed). NCapture also allows to retrieve web pages as pdfs in NVivo.
As mentionned above by Gonzalo, NCapture can be used from Chrome or Explorer but not (yet) from Firefox e.g.
Data collected on the web with NCapture can then be imported in NVivo via External Data/Import/Other sources/NCapture.
When importing data tables in NVivo (e.g. from NCapture), you have to chose, for each column, to define it as a classification column or as a codable column. Only cells (or part of cells) of these codable column can be coded. Classification columns can be use to filter your data.
As you can export any NVivo table as an Excel file, you can edit your data in this Excel file and then import it again in NVivo (External data/Import/table).

Decisions about which package to use should be driven more by the ability of the software to address your general analytical framework, easiness and other aspects are personal (try the trials for that). With NVivo I would recommend trying NCapture, a web browser extension for Chrome or Explorer, to capture material from the web. In addition, you may download streams of Twitter as an XLS file (Excel) and then import into NVivo as a table that can be coded, noted, brought into models, etc. It all depends on your qualitative strategy and not so much the software. There are some good chapters out there discussing some of the methodological, ethical, and conceptual dimensions involved in this analysis. I assume there are twitter chats that are discussing these issues and if there are not, may be some of you could get one running :)

Thanks to all for your input. Actually from the LinkedIn discussion group mentioned by Véronique, I found Bazeley & Jackson (2013) "Qualitative Data Analysis with NVivo". I have just received a copy and look forward to get the best out of it.
I'd recommend Lyn Richards' "Handling Qualitative Data" (http://www.uk.sagepub.com/booksProdDesc.nav?prodId=Book233494). I found it a very insightful book - and of course she and Tom Richards were the original developers of NVivo,so she knows her way around the software. What was surprising to me though is that it's not tied to Nvivo, and has useful things to say in general.
I attended the two day NVivo class two weeks ago and we went through the process of data capture, import and how to code social media data.
