In 2007 I did an Internet search for others using cutoff sampling, and found a number of examples, noted at the first link below. However, it was not clear that many used regressor data to estimate model-based variance. Even if a cutoff sample has nearly complete 'coverage' for a given attribute, it is best to estimate the remainder and have some measure of accuracy. Coverage could change. (Some definitions are found at the second link.)
Please provide any examples of work in this area that may be of interest to researchers.

Using the derivative formula for estimating population proportion, a margin of error of 0.05 will result to a maximum sample size of 400, at e = 0.1, n= 100, etc.

Very interesting papers. Not exactly what I had in mind regarding establishment surveys and enough 'coverage' given a variance level, using ratio estimation/prediction, but perhaps a bit more like a paper from the former US Bureau of Mines (A practical approach to cutoff sampling for repetitive surveys, Katherine Harding, Arthur Berger
Bureau of Mines, U.S. Dept. of the Interior, 1971 - Economic surveys) where they wanted to see how soon they could stop sampling as data came in.

If you look at the four methods of cutoff sampling found through the attached link, I was really thinking about regression as used in method 2 there, and really quasi-cutoff sampling to account for tradeoffs when estimating (predicting) for multiple attributes, but there are other forms of cutoff sampling, and I would like to hear about any of them in your experience.
