There is a recent paper in the Australian Veterinary Journal that documents the diagnosis and clinical course of this in a group of captive lizards. Not a happy outcome but it might be a starting point. The citation is below and let me know if you want a copy

The term CANV is actually a misidentification. The anamorph genus Chrysosporium is actually widespread across the onygenales, and morphologic ID of them is not great. The most common things formerly misidentified as CANV are Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola (very common in North American snakes) and Nannizziopsis guarroi (common in captive bearded dragons and green iguanas). I've seen a lot of reptile fungal disease, and based on molecular and not morphologic ID, none have been N. vriesii. See:

James, your links are highly interesting. Now we have a lot of CANV-like fungi! But I'm not sure we are able to identify them correctly in routine lab practice. Anyway is it really impact on treatment options?

You´re welcome, I have special interest in those kind of fungi too. In my country, it has never been diagnosed but I´ve isolated some specimens CANV-like from turtles but I still haven´t make PCR for identificate them.

I see, Alejandra. Actually I identify CANV basing on morphology too. I use Atlas of Clinical Fungi by de Hoog et al. Of course, the molecular identification would be desirable.

I've had cases diagnosed with CANV and treated successfully using the protocol mentioned in the previously quoted publication. I recommend to contact Frank Pasman and his Team at Ghent University for further reference.
