I'd like to take DLS measurement of WO3 sol in EtOH but i'm facing problem in finding the RI and a.c. of such materials. I looked a bit in the literature, but most of the values I found for RI and a.c. refers to thin film of this materials after annealing. Has anyone faced a similar situation and/or have a paper with this data?
maybe not for the RI, but the solution colour is deep blue so I think the absorption coefficient will be very different from the bulky metal.
I normally run UV-Visible spectroscopy to find the absorptivity at 633 nm (the wavelength of DLS). This particular wavelength could be different for your system which you can find in the user manual. The RI will definitely change for nanoparticles as opposed to thin films, to see the effect of RI enter a range of values and monitor the drift in size. Look for change in intensity based particle size distribution. Also I suggest you to dilute the concentration of the sample to avoid multiple scattering problem.
Hi Shaskank, thanks for the input. I was thinking to run UV-vis, but as my concentration in unknown, I don't know how precise can be to base the calculation of the absorption coefficient on the concentration of the initial precursor. For the ri I was thinking of using a refractometer....
