Does anyone have experience with growing castor in a greenhouse? How do i synchronise their growth (including germination) and make them grow faster and without insect pests?
The problem I'm facing now is getting them to germinate with local red soil and cocoa peat, and also some of the leaves are being attacked by fungi, likely due to damage by thrips.
They also grow pretty slow. how can I optimise their growth in a greenhouse?
Treat the seed with Syngenta's ApronStar 42 WS at the rate of 10-g commercual product per 4 kg of seed. This will control insect pests as well as damping off ... and other soil-borne diseases caused by fungi or oomycetes during the 1st 45 days of establishment. Soaking the seed overnight in water before treating them with the seed treatment should speed germination. Of course, you also need to have your pots on benches if you are in a cold climate with cold cement floors.
Can I use chemicals like merucric chloride/bleach/Tween20 for seed treatment? How effective are they?
