From what I've seen most people use either manual extraction, Norgen Biotek's phage DNA isolation kit, or Promega's Wizard DNA clean up system. I was wondering if the Qiagen Dneasy blood and tissue kit can be used for bacteriophage DNA extractions and how it compares to the methods mentioned above.

I have used the Roche kit which is similar to this for Viral RNA extraction form the tissues and blood samples. Well, in your case you can write to the company and ask for the sample kit which they will provide you free of cost. You can ask from many companies and then compare the best concentration achieved from the kit. Thanks!

Do you have the bacteriophages isolated already (e.g. by PEG method)? Or are you planning to extract the phage DNA directly from the bacterial cultures?
I usually precipitate the phages with PEG, then I treat the solution with DNAses and then I used a DNA tissue&cells commercial kit (Illustra GE kit). It worked well in my case.

I have isolated phage DNA with Qiagen DNAeasy. It worked excellent, but I also used purified bacteriophages.

I am planning to extract the phage DNA directly from 0.22um filtered bacterial culture. Wouldn't the PEG clog the spin column?
Here is a protocol published last year using the Qiagen kit to purify phage gDNA.
Does anyone has any idea that which kit works best for dna isolation of bacterophages? I have tried manualy but yield was very low. please suggest.
