I have just started working on my last design project at the university.The concept of it, is an open plan "museum" (consisted of cultural spaces in general) that is spread inside the city center.The project uses the metro lines as a main spinal and has two poles on the east and the west edge of the city, which is spread across the sea.Those two poles interconnect and interact with each other through a central core. The two poles are going to be designed at an old train station at the west and next to excising cultural spaces like music halls on the east. This also wants to point out the social and built environment character differences between the west and the east side of the city. Any help regarding similar examples or bibliography would be highly appreciated.
I think an interesting case study for you could be the city of Curitiba, Brazil;
it would be better to give us precise data on which to base our advice: where is your area? What size is it?
Thank you very much for your answer.The project concerns the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece, the west pole is concisted by a part of the city's dock and the old city train station (1878) which are 44.00 hectares, the east side pole are abandoned urban areas and a complex of mills and potteries(started to build in 1836, today known as the Allatini mills) in proximity with the music hall of the city which are 22.00 hectares.The central core that I refered to is going to be one of the metro's (that is under construction) stations, its size and position are still under consideration.

Dear Kalliopi,
I would highly recommend the book Third Space by Edward Soja. His urban critique of the design of downtown LA is full of insights and interpretations.
Second Steve Pyle's book The Body and the City is also a great source of reference for the needs you articulate.

Ms Vanessa the concert hall is beyond oustanding, and I would be very interested to see the plans and the restoration process.Mr Douglas I took a fast look on the books you recommended ,I found both books that can help me very much in the proccess of building the storytelling of the city "museum".If you have more books to recommend I would highly appreciate it as these two are the only ones I have so far.As the project keeps progressing I might be able to say that the concept is a walk in another city through the remains of several chronologiacal phases in a modern city, that its start and end point are the old station and the mills.In order to achieve that I will try to take in consideration social, economical, architectural dimensions that are attached to each of these remains and what they or could represend.
