I'm injecting a hypomethylating agent for my project into transgenic mice. I'm struggling with handling the mice so that it can flip over on me and cause me to lose the injection site.
Its a technical matter actually. It is better if somebody show you at first then you follow to do. However, try to get other person to hold its neck and you hold its tail with lower back tightly to get softly I.P. injection. Before any administration confirm fasting of mice at least 6-4 h. Practice 2-3 times then it will be ok, that is really not tough that you are thinking!
many descriptions for a theoretic handling for different animal lab,but practices is the properly method to succeed an injection, anyway intracranial,IP, SC,I Cervical, IV, I Uterine ,cardiac ,... so
you fix the tail between the two finger squeeze back through the median.
by the thumb and forefinger you can grab the neck, passing in the same time and simultaneously, back skin, you remove the tail making a knot to bring up the surface of the injection. this method seems difficult, but very effective.
even i have small hands so i also struggled in the beginning, but with practice, its very easy... grab the neck with your thumb and index finger, hold the tail using your little finger..... if you hold like this properly, they wont be able to move..... practice again and again...
