We are two master degree students in clinical psychology writing our dissertation about mental health in unaccompanied underage refugees within Norway. We have conducted narrative interviews and transcribed these. However, we lack competence on how to properly analyse these interviews. Does anyone have any suggestion on what analytical approach one should use on narrative interviews?
I discern common patterns (Gestalt) and then differences. And I actually prefer narratives compared to designed surveys or other structured assays. I was trained in part by a social anthropologist.

For a successful narration interview I advise you:
- Defining concepts related to your research.
What exactly do you want to reach? This is the most important question to ask yourself before starting the interview - as well as looking at previous studies on your research topic.
Adopt an integrative approach based on two or more approaches.
This is so that you can take the topic from all sides.

For my master's thesis I used interpretative phenomenological analysis. For that, I read and reread all transcriptions and derived themes from them. For instance, in almost all my interviews, my participants had talked about how they missed their loved ones, or how they wanted to be back home, hence the theme "longing". After finishing the derivation of themes, I grouped them into superordinate themes. For more info, you can check my thesis on my page. Hope it helps.
