In a professional development workshop setting I want to use observation of group discussion as an informal formative assessment method to track group progress.  The items I want to track and document are:

  • the scope and quality of inferences drawn from the topical concepts,
  • the scope and quality of implications for use given during discussion,
  • the progress towards transfer of the concepts to other situations, and
  • the progress towards valuing, incorporating or characterization of the concepts.
  • I would like to capture these items consistently through several separate, but related, group discussion sessions. This is to be able to assess the items in a longitudinal manner as opposed to a one-time effort.

Does anybody have any aids, ideas or places to look?

    Thanks you!
