Servo-hydraulic tensile testing machines can be used for performing dynamic tensile tests. Usually, the following measurements (yarn parameters) can be obtained: breaking force (maximum force), breaking tenacity, elongation, initial modulus and breaking toughness (energy). These parameters describe the yarn characteristics and are crucial for predicting the yarn behaviour in use or in upcoming manufacturing processes. I am interested in research related to the use of high-speed (servo-hydraulic or other types) tensile testing machines in low-temperature conditions (bellow 0 degree Celsius).
In this matter, you can turn to Dr. Christoph Ebert from the Technische Universität Dresden. He is expert in the field of highly dynamic tests and conducts extensive research on strain-rate dependent behavior of composite materials. Maybe he can help you.
We used a high-speed video camera (up to 100k frames per second) and a meter stick as an alternative to an instrumented tensile tester. You still need a machine that 'pulls' at, for example, constant speed, with a force monitor (which you include in the video), but you get the strain, strain rate and deformation/break point by analyzing the video frame by frame.

In our laboratory we carry out the test as suggested by Irwin and we use thermal chamber to heat the specimen but not aware of sub zero testing. You may like to use the procedure adopted for DBTT measurement wherein liquid nitrogen is used for sub zero testing.

I have found some articles on Ductile-Brittle Transition Temperature procedure for sub zero tests, but not much on using it for yarns for technical applications.
