Does anybody know any organization that has livelihood index? I am interested in measuring livelihood index of some communities in my locality. I need valid instrument (questionnaire) to adapt.
Would you define livehood? The UN qualitty of life index can have many variables that could help in building a livehood index, or some other indexes already in use. Very interesting idea, would like to know the operational definition.
You may wish to consult the UNDP's Human Development Index (HDI). Doctrinally, Marc Lindenberg's Livelihood Security Index could also be instructive and useful.
I have a work with a partner and we created a index for evaluating livelihood. However this paper will be published in January 2016, so we cannot tell the methodology of the index. What we can do is share with you a method that uses an author called Sergio Sepulveda and it can be usefull (text in spanish).
Qerim Qerimi: Thank you so much. I am studying the materials from UNDP (HDI). I have not seen much from Marc Lindenberg's Livelihood Security Index. Do you have a link?
Abraham Londoño: Good to know that you have done an extensive work on index for evaluating livelihood. January 2016 is not too far. I will actually need to use the survey instrument in February/March 2016. Kindly let me know as soon as the work is published. I hope it is not in Spanish too. I do not understand Spanish language. Congrats. Thanks.
I suggest to take the five livelihood capitals (natural, human, physical, financial and social capital), develop two or three indicators for each capital and collect the information. The index is individual for the community under study. I think that it makes little sense to compare communities as the background varibale differ a lot. Still the index is helpfull to compare householdsw against each other and determine, what constututes households with secure livelihoods and such that have challenges
