I have recently electrospun PC and ABS nanofibers and I would like to know if annealing them at different durations and temperature ranges would increase the mechanical properties.
Annealing fibers at higher temperatures have resulted in improved mechanical properties. But it is extremely important to maintain either strict vacuum conditions or proper inert environments. Slight presence of oxygen during annealing may result in brittleness.
Dear all, two processes are in competition once fibers are exposed to annealing. These are (a) if the polymer is crystallizable, possible crystallization and crystal growth occur, this leads to enhanced mechanical properties, and (b) loss of orientation of fibers, this leads to loss of mechanical properties.
