ZnO has been a prominent material for sea water treatment etc. I have a doubt about the solubility of ZnO nanorods/particles when immersed either in Acidic solutions (such as Phosphate Buffer Solutions-PBS, or some salts) or in Basic Solutions (NaOH).
I have noticed that when ZnO nanorods are immersed in PBS solution (for 240 hrs), they are dissolved completely and form Zinc phosphates/sulfates, etc.
Is it possible?
Can anyone's expertise clarify and recommend me some articles in this regard?

In this study, the effect of pH, ionic strength, and adsorption of humic acid on the aggregation and dissolution of 4 ( 1 nm nanoparticles of ZnO was investigated. Several interesting implications of nanoparticle aggregation and dissolution are obtained from this study.
