I ask this question because as demonstrated in my paper here, we can define four more components of the gravitational field and this have the potential to explain the Rotation Curves of Spiral Galaxies, The Pioneer Anomaly, Planetary Rings, the Tituis-Bode Law etc. If this work prove correct in the future, then, it will become clear than our understanding of gravitation has been lacking.

As it has not been proven wrong to date at smaller scales, it is not absurd to take it as a start for cosmological investigations. But one should not forget that indeed this is a basic assumption : that the Universe can be described by General Relativity. Finally let's not forget that modern cosmology relies on further assumptions to derive the Friedmann-Lemaitre world model. Anyway, this has nothing to do with "dogma worship" and a lot of mainstream researchers do investigate modified gravity theory.
General Relativity is considered true until proven wrong (compare with "Presumption of innocence").
