I think it is increased stress because when modern discoveries increases comfort in one side ,BUT, at the same time giving us more stress in other side .
Communication and information technology has a negative effects on the individual and the family which may causes : social isolation ,physical inactivity and psychological stress.
Modern technology actually increases stress. The reason is that a lot of catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) are released each time you , for example receive a new whats app message.
I will start by giving an example of what used to happen before the technology age. Let us say during the ages that man used to depend on hunting. A man in the bush would for example find lion or let us say an impala. A surge of catecholamines would be released into the blood. The man would either flee form the lion or run after the impala for a kill so that he could bring meat home for his family. The physical exercise associated with the flight from the lion or running after the impala would bring about increased levels of metabolism that would include using up the catecholamines so produced. in other words, the physical exercise would remove the catecholamines that it were produced by the body before the physical exercise started.
The problem with technology of nowadays is that we find a lot of things that make our bodies produce a lot of catecholamines like the alarm in the morning, the realization that a deadline for an assignment is today, the phone ringing, a new message on email or whats app etc. Most of these activities are not associated with physical exercise. The result is that most the things we come across in our activities of daily living produce increasing amounts of catecholamines which continue to accumulate in our bodies. The increased accumulation of catecholamines without associated physical exercise means that we continue to accumulate increasing levels of stress.
Modern technology actually increases stress because when you stop to consider how quickly we’ve made computers — and smart phones, in particular — a central part of our lives, it’s hardly a surprise that we sometimes struggle to use them appropriately.
20 years ago, people wouldn't have believed it would be normal to walk down the street while staring a small glowing rectangle. Yet here we are.
Technology has brought impressive benefits to both individuals and businesses. It’s created entire industries and enabled us to work in new ways. Yet it’s becoming harder to ignore the downsides.
I think it generally reduces pressure, I do not forget when we used the typewriter to write books and write letters, and the impact varies according to the cultural shock of each of us, who is still afraid to travel by aircraft and fast trains, in return for this wonderful luxury, how to shorten the time and communicate and get the latest data as fast What is possible, sometimes the pressure is caused by the slow adaptation to it
Interesting assessment of modern technology! It is meant to reduce stress which has been proven empirically. Yet, when used excessively, it does not just compound the stress but accelerates one's health problems. To effectively utilize modern technology to serve its purpose as a tool for reducing and/or eradicating stress, its users must be DISCIPLINED, knowing the exact borders which are not to be crossed.
Borden Mushonga has elaborately explained. More we are facing new situations, more is our stress level goes up. We may draw solace from some but digital race goes on escalation.
think it is increased stress because when modern discoveries increases comfort in one side . but i think ealse for some humens make strees because they dont no how its use
Modern technology needs a definition, do you mean social media? There is considerable research out there that suggests an increase in the levels of stress faced by users of such new media outlets, however, the term 'modern technology' is way too broad. For example, should this 'modern technology' also include robotics, wouldn't a reduction in toil have stress reducing effects?
Stress is a very subjective experience, particularly when linked to technology, for example, in HCI, an unresponsive interface can result in stress - you might wish to define the depth of this resulting stress, the nature of this stress and then you should be able to formulate the appropriate hypotheses around this question.
