Based on my experience dealing with angel investing, venture building, startups creation and mentorship for entrepreneurs& social entrepreneurs, I would say that the difference reside on the execution aspect. Creativity is much more linked to the imagination of things that may or may not see daylight, on the other hand innovation is the result of execution processes that finally validated an specific approach. "Yes creativity might be the spark but execution will be the wood and the oxygen thus leading to innovation - the fire of change."

Those of use studying creativity see it feeding innovation. Stage models are often used, with creativity involving "preparation (problem finding), incubation, illumination, and verification" (or labels like that) but innovation going further, to implementation (or execution, to quote Rodrigo, above).  But there are other ways to distinguish creativity from innovation.  The "standard definition of creativity" points to Originality and Effectiveness as required, but in innovation it could be that the ratio shifts: Whereas creativity emphasizes originality, but with effectiveness also required, in Innovation Effectiveness is primary and originality, though required, is secondary.  It is probably NOT wise to conflate creativity with imagination. Those can also be extricated, just as easily as creativity and innovation.  Imagination always requires a transcendence from reality (see Margorie Taylor's excellent research, for example). This can contribute to some creativity, but not all. You might say that imagination can feed creativity, but is distinct from it, just as creativity feeds innovation but is distinct from it. Creativity leads to innovations. If anyone is creative , it involves knowledge, understanding, application, analysis and synthesis, the all five objectives of learning and teaching process and later coupled with your varied experiences leads to new concepts. The translation of new concepts in to solving our day to day problems leads to innovation- real applications. Any new innovation-advancement over existing methodology should satisfy the essential parameters of RAP's: Reliability ( accuracy and precision), applicability and Practicability. Creativity is related to ‘imagination’, but innovation is related to ‘implementation.

The following are the major differences between Creativity and Innovation:

---The quality of thinking new ideas and putting them into reality is creativity. The act of executing the creative ideas into practice is innovation.

---Creativity is an imaginative process as opposed to innovation is a productive process.

---Creativity can never be measured, but Innovation can be measured.

---Creativity is related to the generation of ideas which are new and unique. Conversely, Innovation is related to introduce something better into the market.

---Creativity does not require money. On the other hand, innovation requires money.

I must respond to Kundu's answer, above.  We are in agreement on most points (my answer was earlier in this same thread) but not on two points. First, there is risk with creativity--tons of it (Rubenson & Runco, 1992, 1995; and a paper just under review). Also see "social costs of creativity," in press in the journal, Creativity: Theories, Research, Applictations.  The risk is inevitable because creativity relies (in part) on originality, which means doing something unconventional.  So there is quite a bit of evidence (and theory) tying creativity to risk.  Second, creativity can be measured. Or actually, "creative potential" and "creative activity and achievement" can be measured. The reason someone may think creativity cannot be measured is that they equate it with imagination, which is in accurate.  Imagination = transcendence of reality. But the spontaneous tendency to do that disappears about age 5 (see any of Piaget's books). We can transcend a bit, some of the time (see Marjorie Taylor's numerous works), and that can feed creativity, but most creativity after age 5 is relatively independent of imagination.  If you equate creativity with imagination, it follows that creativity is difficult to measure; but creativity is separate from imagination, and if it is operationalized (as we do in the field of creativity research) as creative potential, there are many very reliable tests, some with 50 year predictive validity (see Runco et al., 2010).  If you operationalize it as creative activity and achievement, there are other very good measures (see Runco et al., 2016, the journal Business Creativity & the Creative Economy--and dozens of other excellent studies).  I will gladly supply more specifics or papers on these two points--that creativity can be measured and is not synonymous with imagination, and that there is inherent risk in all creativity.

60 years of empirical research has demonstrated that creativity is NOT merely a qualitative virtue, as stated above. Indicators of it are highly reliable and predictive of actual creative and innovative behaviors. Take a look at the Creativity Research Journal, for example.  Or explore the article I attach. Thank you for the clarification you have given here. I read your earlier answers.. So probably, innovation is followed by creativity! I considered creativity as a virtue and thus associated it with qualitative work.
