I can say that Big Data Analytics cab be a real value-added approach, based on my program of research. The important thing is that an underlying theory and philosophy (e.g. business model) under the Big Data Analytics plays a core role of determining whether or not the Big Data Analytics can add the real value.
Yes, big data analytics could be a real value-adding approach for both company and clients, if properly designed and implemented. For instance, I use and look into Google products (e.g, Google Analytics, Google Keywords, Google Trends, etc.) and one can simply observe the values of big data analytics for both company and its users.
However, I have certainly seen very too much hypes about big data in the past 10 years, and recently about AI, and too many "mediocre" products that create no values in both big data or AI.

I suggest to avoid the use of Big Data Analytics, and instead to use Data Analytics. Big, medium, or small data don't make any difference from the data analytics perspective. What is considered big data today could be small in the near future.
The value is in the methods, methodological approach of data analysis (from the data collection to the presentation and communication of results, evidence and knowledge) to generate evidence for actions, transformation of specific situation, reach goals, or improve a current situation.
Well. I worked as project manager for 13 years and I worked in Big Data Applicability aspect. So, The question to ask before investing in a big project is : Will Big Data Analytics add something new or valuable more than traditional environment.
Really interesting comment. But, I think when we deal with NoSQL data bases and/or IoT sources of data flow, I should use Big Data Analytics to make diffrence with traditional data bases and data flows.
Your comment helps me looking further in my literature.
Every thing we deal with can produce a big data that should be analysis and organize to be benefit for use as suitable use so I think the big data analytics can be a real value added approaches rather than a hype
