In particular, I am looking for studies that looked at the impact of mispronunciation of Arabic religious labels/names such as Muslim and Islam (pronounced in Fus'ha (standard) Arabic as Muss'limb /mʊslɪm/ and Iss'lamb /ɪslæm/), which are often mispronounced by native speakers of English (Mazlim and Izlam). Other studies from other languages and contexts would be beneficial too. In general, I am looking for studies which looked at how such mispronunciation may have contributed to misconceptions about religious or ethnic groups where the mispronunciation, for example, may have produced more bombastic, aggressive-sounding labels for these groups in the languages of their host communities or international/regional languages such as English, French, and Spanish.
