Museum specimens sometimes get damaged by accidents, negligence, natural catastrophes, and so on. However, even if damaged, museum specimens can be useful for research. Do you know of published examples were valuable data has been obtained from damaged recent (not fossils) specimens?

Earlier this year I asked this question because with my colleagues Lenyn Betancourt-Cargua, Andrea C. Román and Gustavo Morejon we were having a hard time finding research about the scientific use of heavily damaged museum specimens to back a short article that we were working on. We found interesting diet items in a damaged snake specimen from the Galápagos:
