I am looking for names of microfinance institutions across the globe that have listed their shares in stock exchanges. If you know one please send me a name. I have access to the MIX database so I will investigate further once I have names.
The two well-known ones are Compartamos in Mexico and SKS in India. The second is the less researched story, I believe. I am not aware of other MFIs that have emerged from the realm of none-profits and have transformed into for-profit MFIs have gone public. Some Indian ones are still eyeing the option, e. g. Arohan (https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/mfis-in-search-for-equity-capital-to-fund-growth/articleshow/64738534.cms) I do not know where they have reached now. I am not well informed about the situation in Latin America. I believe no African MFI has gone public so far.
I know about a publication on MFIs https://publications.iadb.org/publications/english/document/Foreign-Exchange-Risk-and-Microfinance-Institutions-A-Discussion-of-the-Issues.pdf and also some inspiration can be found maybe here https://www.cerge-ei.cz/pdf/dissertations/2014-alimukhamedova.pdf
