i want to compare some countries published articles on the issue of library and information science from scopus database. so how can extract this information?
Hi Ali, you will have to perform in Scopus a query with keywords and country affiliations in order to get such data. If your institution does not have a subscription to Scopus, you might want to check SCImago Journal and Country Rank website, which you can access with no charge in this URL http://www.scimagojr.com/countryrank.php
SCImago might give you some indicators based on the sources indexed in Scopus. Hope it helps.
First search on the basis of key words, or journal titles, etc. until you get a list of relevant articles. Then go back to your search and add an extra search field. Type the name of the country of interest, e.g. Germany in the left box and select "Affiliation Country" for the right hand box. You should get a list of all articles satisfying the first search term that have at least one author with an affiliation in the chosen country. One problem is that some articles will probably have several authors from different countries; so you might have to figure out what is the "main" country or whether they can be assigned to more than one contributing country.
Oddly you will find that none of the horribly expensive databases that we subscribe to (like Scopus and Web of Science) does a particularly good job with library science. The approach in Scopus that Cesar and Jon are suggesting is appropriate.
On Scopus you hit the search term "Information and Library science" with the search mode " all fields", and then you limit the retrieval set by country. This option is available in Scopus on the left side of the retrieval set. The set is not "clean" and the collaborative papers are not always the sole product of one country, but you may get a rough estimate on how many papers on the subject are produced by each country.
Another option, of course, is to search Scimago, an open database empowered by Scopus.
Abstracts indexes nearly 580 core journals, over 50 priority journals, and more than 120 selective journals. Coverage in this free research database extends back as far as the mid-1960s. The database also includes a robust thesauri and author profiles..
You can search for GE, Geographic terms for each country of interest.
i think first list out the journal which are indexed by scopus in library and information science then make advanced query on Journal name and country affiliation, you will get result of paper published by author affiliated to the specific country
