Do you want to design a) a globally accessible MOOC för potentially a lot of simultaneously interacting students or do you want to b) design something MOOC-like for a smaller set of students?
If a) there are open-source CMSs that are specially designed for MOOCs as well, as for example OpenEdx. https://open.edx.org/ When working in such a platform, you can probably get help from the community to design a MOOC on this designated MOOC platform.
@Anders Norberg, Yes, it is true, but can be the case, when one has a Moodle environment, and a number of resources, already designed, and an experience in working on Moodle. On the other hand, it is easier to make changes in the software structure, when one knows the "tricks" to include new funcionalities. In general, how to deal with a huge number of students, in an open online course, using those facilities, that Moodle has and they have been working several years. The idea is to face the challenge, instead of avoid it.
