I saw the following opinion which picturize the human beings as programmed automats (I don't remember the author):
A human being is built from anatomic systems, and reacts to the environment according to the composition and fisiology of these systems. Thus, if a machine to which we would input the particularities of all the systems of a certain individual, would react to the environment exactly as the individual.
Thus, we are predictable robots, and our free choices when we face a certain situation and have to make a decision, is an illusion.
This presentation reminds me of a finite-state macine, of course, with a huge number of states. Though, such a machine is also a "learning machine", not a static one, i.e. the states and the rules by which the machine passes from one state to the other, change in time according to both an autonomous evolution of the component systems, and the feedback of the environment to the behavior of the machine.
Is this an acceptable thesis? Does something missing from this thesis?
I would appreciate opinions, not references.
