I am gathering images that represent graphically the organization of colors and species. The images may be from folk taxonomy, Linnaean taxonomy, iBOL, cladistics, Munsell, Goethe, and other sources.

From the small amount of information that you have provided, I think that you are operating at a fairly high level of pattern recognition. However, since you are dealing in part with phylogenies, you should be aware that some hominin cladograms are based on single specimens. For example, in the case of the meme "Homo floresiensis" the phylogenies are based on a single skull (LB1) that is developmentally abnormal, so the phylogenies are misleading.

Thank you for the information that some hominin cladograms are based on single specimens. Until more referents are discovered, such cladograms could lead to over-generalizations.
My project is currently in the phase of gathering images of color and species systems in order to see if there exist sufficient similarities to warrant further investigation. Previously, I was surprised to find that with color and species nomenclature, although fundamentally different, the attempts at quantification, through the assignation of names and descriptions made, for me at least, a compelling study.

Dear Tanya,
Your answer here suggests to me one area of conceptual overlap that deserves to be explored: That is, in the case of color names, a continuum (the spectrum) is subdivided subjectively into a finite number of categories, which differ from culture to culture. In phylogeny and taxonomy there can be similar arbitrary subdivisions, particularly in the case of phyletic evolution, when continuous lineages are segmented into time-successive "species" that really are not species at all since gene flow was continuous.
Above and beyond that important conceptual matter, some "species" simply are wrong because established for entirely erroneous reasons. In the case of the meme "Homo floresiensis" no separate species exists at all since the type specimen is abnormal and hence violates the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. In the case of "Homo floresiensis" we are not dealing with philosophical differences but simple bad science.

Your point that categories differ from culture to culture, and that divisions are arbitrary because "species" are not really species at all, since gene flow is continuous, is what nakes the comparison of the species continuum to the continuum of the color spectrum tenable. Obviously color does not evolve as living beings do, (although our color perception can evolve) but the arbitrariness of the divisions of the two continua interests me.
"Homo floresiensis" will henceforth be on my radar. Thanks.
