According to my experience: Money, fame, and power are not the essence of either success or happiness. Success comes from our satisfaction while you see many famous rich people are not happy while a poor man with his family is always happy!
Success is when you can spend 90 percent of your time doing the things you want to do and only 10 percent doing things you have to do. Most people’s lives are just the opposite.( SCOTT SPANGLER )
“He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; Who has enjoyed the trust of pure women, the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; Who has never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty or failed to express it; Who has left the world better than he found it, Whether an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; Who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; Whose life was an inspiration; Whose memory a benediction.” ― Bessie Anderson Stanley,
Money and happiness, both, are nothing to do with success!
"People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed. Similarly, when someone is failing, the tendency is to get on a downward spiral that can even become a self-fulfilling prophecy."
Do you believe success comes in the form of money or happiness?
Think the criteria for the construct "success" is subjective & can be different from a person to another. People might view you as a successful person but you might disagreed etc. Perhaps each person can list down their criteria for success e.g. aspired job performance / status, academic achievement, monetary goal, social economic status etc. then actual end result can be benchmarked with those predefined criteria to evaluate whether you are successful or not.
If the construct "success" is intended to be used in research e.g. entrepreneur's success, project success, project management success etc., then rigorous literature review should be performed as there are some instruments / survey questionnaires established for such research purpose.
My view is enhancing the “personal qualities” lead to success.

“Personal quality is considered as an essential factor that determines a person’s development, others’ development, institutional development and nation development. Personal quality is perceived as a concept considering of three dimensions such as “Personal Character” (the totality of persistent moral qualities a person has), “Personal Management” (the totality of attributes in planning and controlling a person’s life for achieving his or her life goals without wasting time, energy and available resources) and “Personal Key Success Factors” (the vital qualities one should possess in order to accomplish a certain target which is desired state to be achieved in future).”

Happiness is the outward description of real success not money. As the ancient book says, the love of money has been the root of evil, plunging many with a lot of pain.
People tend to measure the extent of a person's success by the amount of money that person obtained or the happiness that person is enjoying. However, the true degree of success should be measured by that person's accomplishment or contribution to the humans.
True scientists work to satisfy their curiosity. Did they have achieve the goal for which they strove depends completely on their own assessment. If they did - they are happy (and money has almost no meaning for them)
I think that one's personal vision about life is a very crucial motive. Consequently, people who are grittier are more likely to become successful in life. Grit, the persistent perseverance in attaining one's goals cannot be substituted by money or happiness. It is a necessary factor in embracing success.
I think that success caused happiness for any people .Someone counted money as the success it self completely and it is the source of happiness ,whereas others look for happiness through success in work ,or their families.

Varies from person to person.....some consider money and some happiness as success.....money is not everything but many things are possible just because of money...

I think success depends very much on the opportunities you have access to as a person. Opportunities usually depend greatly on the level of economic, social, etc. development of a community. That's why people looking for success are willing to move to a larger city or emigrate to a more developed country that can offer more opportunities. Success in this case can be translated into money or recognition, or both. I think it is important that the success you are looking for is real, based on your own merits, and not a fake one, of conjuncture. False success is passive while the real one is more persistent, usually valid over time. The problem is that both types of success generate the same sense of self-fulfillment, which makes them very difficult to distinguish and manage. I think it is important to our well-being, as well as to have a high self-esteem to distinguish between the two types of success.
