COVID 19 has existed for more than three months, then many people die because of it. Government policy is a different approach, for protecting the community from the disease. Some country has been implemented lockdown policy. But neither the country did not do the lockdown policy. The main problem is inconsistency policy, between lockdown and non-lockdown policy. The inconsistent policy will help wealthy people, but none wealthy people don't get any benefit. Because wealthy people can continue their business, on the other hand, unwealthy people can not continue their business. Poor people (unwealthy) normally using hand by hand transaction. But, healthy people (rich people) can use the internet (e-commerce) for their transactions. So, it's common in third world countries. Its the starting point of social discrimination in the COVID 19 era. .
yes, agree there are people who are under previlaged to even afford a phone they are forced to buy a pc ! this will effect and shape future of lives.

Corona Virus affected the global economy worldwide and at level of individuals it dose more as a negtive effect of lockdown and restricted economy and jobs. Poor people that depending on daily income for living got poorest and some families are not finding to eat specially in countries where no government or social support. Announcing inconsistent lockdowns without preparing relief for the daily-wagers can only cause the social and economic discrimination to them. This would in turn increase with the big businesses going digital only with the white collar workforce leaving the blue collar either retrenched or far behind the Industry 4.0
Reza, in addition to the inconsistency of implementation various countries COVID-19 containment measures, there is the additional, and, to my mind, more potent (un)intended consequence of creating a climate leading to the potential socio-economic discrimination of certain groups, mainly minorities (see for example, Hansen & Melhus, 2010). There are additional problems, though and these are related to the adverse psychological and wellbeing issues of those affected by such treatment (see Chakraborty & McKenzie, 2002). This is interesting stuff.
Unluckily socioeconomic discrimination almost always exit where its severity varies in different circumstances.The same situation also lies in COVID-19 with somehow more or lesser discrimination.However instances has also been seen matters have carried above discrimination.
Covid 19 starts as a healthy problem but it has transformed to an economic problem that affects everybody because the world is connected but I agree that it it causes a social effect of discrimination.
It depends on the effectiveness and economic effects of the anti-pandemic security measures used, whose purpose is to limit and slow down the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic (causing Covid-19 disease) and the instruments of anti-crisis, interventionist socio-economic policy, including budgetary and fiscal policy and monetary policy. There are significant differences in many issues regarding the above issues in individual countries and even regions of countries.

Yes, for sure, it will produce social and economic discrimination! It will expose the most vulnerable people and this will create even more discrimination - regardless of race, faith and ethnicity. The poorest and most vulnerable will suffer the most. Last but not least, it will increase discrimination even in relation to the country of origin.

Yes, I do. COVID-19 situation together with quarantine already produces discrimination in Lithuania against elderly with the signs on some book shops not to enter for the elderly. Also discrimination is possible for the elderly in the labour market - by rejecting work offer. New discrimination forms will appear in the nearest future, I think. What about Your countries' experience?
there are many ways by which inequality may end up being higher than before the Covid19 outbreak
1) is smartworking feasible? a) yes, you keep your job and pay; b) no, you lose them both
2) under b) what are conditions for restarting your activity? i) more caution, but no additional high costs; ii) high costs necessary for safety reasons
3) how much the welfare state would cater for hardships?
and of course there are more ways depending on society structure, in addition to economic activity
the virus does not produce inequality per se, but the circumstances of the country where the spread takes place will determine the consequences in term of inequality
All kinds of socio-economic disparities will be brought to the forefront due to Covid-19. Firstly, the kind of 'low skilled' jobs in health and social care, retail and distribution that working - middle class people are typically employed in, are all of the sectors still going to work, and are now considered key workers. There is a lot to be said in this sense from a sociology of health perspective, meaning that those from poorer socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to come into contact with the virus. This can be particularly said for BAME demographics and individuals. On the other hand, most of the other working -middle class people who also worked in sectors such as retail and hospitality have let go from 0 hour contracts, are on unpaid leave, or in some lucky cases, furloughed. This means that a lot of individuals working in these sectors are now having to apply for universal credit, with lengthy waits for outcome decisions and sanctions that have been widely criticised. Relative deprivation is also a lot more apparent, with many wealthier families able to provide activities, and resource for their families and children, whilst those from poorer socio-economic backgrounds cannot afford those luxuries.

Maybe we could agree on the fact that low-skill means, more exactly, low-pay.
Yet, a low pay should not be associated to a key-job.

yes the pandemic has brought the social and economic descrimination already . As a result of lockdown , the daily wage-workers,and the immigrant workers are affected mostly.The Government should think in in a proactive way and make a policy to create jobs in the country .for example small job creation like making masks and local production of PPE,s or delivery of the daily utilities, emergency driving of ambulances, helping in quarantine homes.

The issues of poor bandwidth, internet connectivity apart from wealth can also cause discrimination. No, I don't think that Covid-19 is responsible for producing issues of social economic discrimination. These are issues that have been perpetuated for centuries through systems such as capitalism, and since the 1980s, privatisation and the removal of regulations for companies. The pandemic has only highlighted the existing issues and made them worse for many of us.
The policies that are created during the pandemic stem from the same kind of system producing the stark inequalities we see world wide. It's the same mechanisms used for centuries, so we should not be surprised they are being used now to profit the rich and marginalise the poor.
We do see exceptions, though, in countries like New Zealand, or the introduction of the Green New Deal in South Korea. The ideas are already lying around for systems change and how to achieve it. The seeds have hopefully been sown during the pandemic, now every single one of us needs to tend to the seeds to make sure they grow into healthy, sustainable trees that benefit all of us. People are generally good. Plenty of examples exist of people helping each other, trying to create a better world. Let's all use our voices to make sure those in power hear how frustrated and angry we are at their unfair politics and policies. Every act, no matter how small, can make a difference.

Yes, definitely, many workers are required to stay at home, their source of income cut off and they are supposed to provide for themselves and their families, the support of the government though good is not enough to help anyone. I don't think covid19 produces this, it simply heightens the already existing problem
Paul: People who lose their job will be hurt the most. Its not really a wealthy and poor situation. People who keep their job during this pandemic will be better off then people who are laid-off or unemployed.

I guess the concept should not be entirely based on lack of income and the consequent inability to provide for more ore or less basic goods and services.
I would rather point out to the discrimination against the old, the sick and the fragile, who are suffering additional deprivations as they are deemed to be less likely to survive the contagion.
