We are conducting a survey study among 22 countries and We are willing to collect responses only electronically, In this case should We obtain an ethical approval from each country of the 22 or only 1 ethical approval is enough?
Dear Mohamed Hazem it will depend on each country's requirements. You may need to ask your research partners to consult their ethics committee to identify the specificities of each country. Some might be happy with the principal ethical ethics approval and only need this letter of consent to conduct the research, others may need a full ethics application.
Ethical approval requirement depends on nature of research as already mentioned above answer.
Ethical approval very sticky maintained at biological or where invasion (draw blood, any test will do) is required otherwise ethical permission on your proposal is okay.
Regard collaboration research,
1. If you mentioned clearly in your proposal methodology than your approval will surved purpose.
2. As the survey is electronic so "consent of respondents" will surve purpose.
Reset depend on the type of research you are going to conduct.
Blindly, above discussion is the superficial basic and general practices at research field.
As you are conducting a multi-country study, it is crucial to consider the ethical requirements of all the countries involved. Although it may seem convenient to obtain ethical approval from just one country, obtaining ethical clearance from all the involved countries (for data collection) is recommended. The rationale behind this is different countries may have different ethical guidelines, regulations, and cultural norms that should be taken into account.
It would depend on the nature of the research and also the requirements in each jurisdiction. I suppose if you have collaborations, each would be able to look at ethical requirents in their institutions/countries.
As you are conducting survey study in different countries, it is preferred to consider ethical requirement of all countries engaged in your research process before data collection.
In case of multi-centric research like this, you need to have ethical permissions from each site. If how ever the principal investigator have gone through ethic review in one committee, and that committee has a good reputation then other sites can apply for expedited review (decisions lie with that ethics committee). But in any case you need approval from each site. And generally ethics committee don't function at national level, these are institution or site specific, so you have to apply to the relevant committee after clearance from Government.
Ethical approval is required from each site, unless some countries where you want to collect the data have harmonised ethics approval framework where a joint ethics review may exist. In such, the joint ethics review can review and give approval for multi-site study for countries that have harmonised ethics review framework.
Approval of the ethics committee is required in each of the countries where this research was carried out first country is where the base country of the research is the country of origin of the research and the other centers that will also be used for research in other countries also need to do a referral to the ethics committee and approval for entry into the field for data collection.
Of course, it is required you get ethical approval in all the sites (countries) where data would be collected.
However, your collaborators and their respective organisations/places of work will determine the process of obtaining approvals.
Kindly note that a country as a whole do not give approval but rather organisations empowered with such a role like the Academic and/or Research institutions, Ministries, Agencies, etc.
Also, the processes involved are quite different in each establishment and country.
