I need to know whether traits relate to heat tolerance (HT) in rice and traits relate to high yielding (HY) are contradict each other ? For example, traits to HT tend to close stomata while traits relate to high yielding tend to open stomata
It depends on the environment. In environmentally ideal (not necessarily economically ideal) , agricultural conditions, such as a research station, any additional feature is likely to cost something. That is HT might reduce HY when there is no heat stress. However, if heat stress occurs, the loss of yield due to it might quickly overwhelm the gain from other factors designated HY in an ideal plant breeding situation. If a breeder provides seed developed under conditions different from the conditions on the farms, disaster is just around the corner.
