Current researches on TPV systems are on IR region.
We assume, a diode works in UV. While the diode temperature is increasing by heating, Pmax is increasing; Is this cell belongs to Thermophotovoltaics?
As a result, i think, every photon has a energy. If a system parameters increasing with temperature, it may belong to TPV family.
To my knowledge, thermophotovoltaic cell is a classical photovoltaic cell cooled by a liquid that transfers the heat to a user (e.g. direct hot water or higher temperature with aa heat pump), so most of the solar energy falling on the panels is used, instead of only about 20% in a common PV cell field.
Silicon cells give one elctron for each absorbed photon having more than 1,14 eV energy, corresponding to a wavelength of 1.085 microns, so the near infrared. Visible and UV photons have more energy, and hence also free an electron, but only one. This is why the silicon PV cells have en efficiency limited to about 21% under solar radiation.
