During my few preliminary studies I have observed that sulfur containing chemicals induces an unknown pheromone like sensitive responses.... Does sulfur has any role in activating any chemostatic responses ??
In rural areas of Ropar district of Punjab, people use matchboxes in the storage silos to protect them from Tribolium sp. It is generally observed in these cases that when these matchboxes are removed from the silos they are full of Tribolium larvae. Though I am not sure about this but I think it is the smell of sulphur which makes these larvae to aggregate in large number in these matchboxes.
