I have several classes in which I give students feedback about how they did their assignment and the process they used, in addition to just the final outcome grade.

Often it takes me significant time to write our feedback that both identifies things the student needs to work on, but is also encouraging.

But I sometimes wonder if students pay much attention to this kind of formative feedback.  Do they just glance at it and not really internalize the feedback as things to work on?

How REALLY receptive are students to formative feedback?
