Looking at some of the questions that were proposed by some participants (appear to be some students who are starting their research), I get the feeling that they do not have proper understanding of the research methods are not properly guided by their mentors as to the methods to be followed in the process. Is it not better in such cases to have a formal course on Research Methods, so that they can be formally trained in the methods such that the students will be able to proceed in the proper direction? This should be a course that should be offered to the student when he/she first start doing research be it Masters or Doctoral. If so what could form a good content for such a course, and what could be the resources that they can use. I am sure most of the Institutions would have such a course as part of their Graduate programs. Some sample suggestion from my side could be:

Basics of research, Finding problem, Literature search methods, Literature review options, Ethics in research, types of research methods, Quantitative and Qualitative methods, Tools to be used for research, Statistics, Proposal writing, Thesis/dissertation writing, Proposal and Thesis presentation methods.

Please give your suggestions.
