While it is not quite easy to provide all of the required skills deemed necessary in a fast-changing world as ours, primarily because they require greater changes on the infrastructural and policy levels as well, we can try our best to embed some of the relevant competencies into the curriculum and beyond, whenever and wherever applicable:

Change is the new constant. And the most precious skill that a 21st century student can develop is the ability to be perennially open to change.

I agree with the preceding comments, especially the importance of openness to change (flexibility, adaptability), open-mindedness, and compassion or having a charitable attitude. In addition, I believe that another important aspect of education at its best involve encouraging students to think and function in a contextual, relational, holistic, interdisciplinary, multicultural, manner, so as to gain insight into how any particular focused subject of inquiry relates to broader phenomena and to the greater indivisible whole web or field of reality, energy, or experience. This emphasis on recognizing the relational, contextual, holistic, nature of reality is affirmed by some of my favorite philosophers and thinkers, such as, Lynne McTaggart, Marilyn Ferguson, Anna Lemkow, Ken Wilber, and Martin Buber, among others. Another related focus of education at its best should be to encourage students to develop psychologically mature and healthy noetic faculties of mind and heart by which to apprehend the deeper relational, holistic, telic, ontic, numinous or sacred core of reality, abiding within and beyond the more concrete, tangible, diverse phenomena that one studies. Some of these higher noetic capabilities of heart and mind, and related psychologically healthy noble qualities of personal character, whose development should be encouraged by compassionate, transformative-oriented educators include, authenticity, sincerity, integrity, creativity, intuition, compassion, empathy, courage, courage, strength of character, inspiration, unselfish love (or warmhearted caring), emotional security, inner wholeness, vitality, and fulfillment. In two books that I have recently published, I discuss the development of these psychologically mature qualities, and how they can contribute to compassionately transforming individual life, personal relationships, and society; facilitate exalted or expanded levels of awareness, as in Abraham Maslow's notion of Peak Experiencing and Charles Garfield's Notion of Peak Performing; as well as generating meaningful common ground between psychologically mature people of diverse ethnic cultures, beliefs, temperaments, and disciplinary specializations. I would suggest the following: preparing for the unforeseeable, learning about irreversibility of processes, coping with the pace of technological innovations, thinking about the possible and the impossible (cohomology, polytopes, space configuration, etc.), the significance of solidarity.

These are skills needed vis-à-vis the coming years in the 21st Century.

3. Developing sensitivity/respect for cross-cultural diversity--world is fast converging.

4. Ability to work in teams, not just in silos

5. Respecting speed, innovation, flexibility, talent, in every sphere

There are many skills needed to develop professionals in this new century, the main are: Correct Communication in the mother language. Correct Communication in foreign languages. Skills in basic science and technology. Digital competence. Learning to learn. Social, civic and ethical competencies. Sense of initiative. Social consciousness.

Apart from agreeing with all above points, I have to stress: one of the most essential ability we need to impart, ALWAYS, is 'self-learning'. By means of assignments of various nature, students can train themselves relatively less-known topics by reading/discussing/practising. This helps their confidence, and to be prepared for many novel situations/areas-of-work in professional life. The exercises/assignments can also be designed to enhance team-work, better communications, etc.

Monica and Debi have the best answers! I agree with them. I wouls like to add a comment. change is the important factor. To treat it we need holistic methods. In mathematics e.g. we should use Category and Sheaf Theory. Thus the learning should be around how fast to change, ideas, habits, etc. without suffering from a sock!

We should teach them problem solving and creative thinking. They should be able to start a new project and come up with good creative solutions to new problems

Correct "Decision making" skill in any situation need to be taught to all the growing students...

Technology has really shortened the distance between Teacher-Taught... however increasing performance towards Life-goals depends on the relationship developed. This becomes an interpersonal relationship and is directly linked to "Self disclosure & Feedback sought" form the student side... equating a transaction with the "Content availability" with the teacher... however in today's context the "Network strength" around them would contribute more.

I believe the best we can teach is a set of resources that give students a good adaptability.

I think, some more points need to be noted.

As seen in the article attached, the teacher today needs to communicate with the student far more than as been happening so far. The kind of challenges that we as a modern society will face are overwhelming. The teacher needs to facilitate the process of creating a desire for LLL (life-long learning) through continuous coaching and mentoring.

Also, it has been found that communication skills are going to be the most critical in any sphere of life in the 21st century. The students need to develop these skills as a priority. This will need focusing both on the content and the delivery. The teacher can guide the students in both respects.

In business, for example, CISCO research found that in 2020, critical success factor fr business success would be managing relationships and not price and quality. This would necessitate communicating effectively by managers both orally as also through body language on a continuing basis.
