I noticed in a couple of professional WhatsApp groups that there was somewhat a curve in the number of posts and interactive discussions between the members:
Initially there were increasing numbers from multiple members, later on there were a lot of interactions, however after a couple of years, the trend of discussions was apparently less, with fewer members posting comments. Many members became somewhat "silent whatsappers"?!
Have you noticed any similar events in such social media groups?
Is there a "life curve" for these groups?
If interactive discussions are fruitful, purposeful, and meaningful to group members who share common interest and/or purpose/goals, the group will never ever age. It will evolve over time! Also, new interesting topics are always useful and help break up the boring routine!
I totally agree with you dear Hassan, and things would vary from one group to another,
But what is actually happening in the "real" world? Do majority of the social media groups continue to flourish or do they decline over time?
Is there any published data on this topic?
In my opinion, it depends on the topic discussed by people. For instance, most of the people you said "Silent" about them become active if a hot topic discussed. Moreover, if you track a particular person you will see him/her silent in a group but active in another group.
Btw, this issue needs to be investigated in a deep way.

I am old and this is my first social media site. I find though that I follow people with conversational threads and as I meet new people who have similar interests or points of view that are interesting to me, I follow them. There are a few topics and contributors though that I have stopped following because I have lost interest in the topic or there are so many new topics. I will be "silent" looking at posts and then when driven to comment, become vocal.

We are never too old for new experiences, especially in this era of high tech that is making things more user-friendly for all !
Yes, I think it is a direct reflection of normal marketing life span as well as the changing algorithms of social media pages. At first, a few followers and then the group will peak with activity as excitement grows, trickling off with slower interaction and with less buzz. It’s a bell curve phenomeno.
That is where the world is heading to so whether one is old or young you will eventually join the march
