Definitely, we are not native speakers of English; quite a high number of middle class children speak this language at home from childhood in an effort to attune them to what their parents term high culture. However, there is evidence that different families adopt different strategies but it appears with good exposure to English in school and a sturdy foundation in the indigenous language, the children become highly competent bilinguals. the other route is also not known to fail only the competence level of such children in both languages sometimes appear to be not at the level of competence of the other group.
