Friends - while most of us use LaTeX or Microsoft Word for our submissions to international journals and IEEE Conferences, I like to know whether people still use the TeX word-processor, which was a predecessor to LaTeX. I use many TeX commands in LaTeX and it readily accepts them. Some of my friends prefer AMS-LaTeX for typing out their Maths papers. Thanks!! - Sundar

We have to follow journal guidelines. I am giving here links to Sage and ASME. Sage requires only Word format while ASME requires either in Word or LaTex. Similarly you should look for your journal requirement. If nothing is specified what you are comfortable with.

LaTeX is a generalised set of macros to let you do many things. Most people don't want to have to program TeX, especially to set up things like sections, title pages, bibliographies and so on. LaTeX provides all of that: these are the 'macros' that it is made up of. TeX being basic the user has to write more macros to format which is provided by LaTeX. It does not make any sense to use TeX any more.
Perhaps it deals with the consequences of different speeds in technical evolution across cultures/countries... Are those that use older techniques penalized, and if so why?
LaTeX includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific papers. It is available as free software. It has all the set up parts of the research separated like sections.
Dear Nageswara Rao - Your point is well-made, but kindly note that when we compile a Tex-family document, we are usually given three options - (1) TeX, (2) LaTeX and (3) AMS-Tex. My question is why most of us tend to use (2) only, and also, if someone uses the historically first one, TeX, will the journals still accept it. I have heard some TeX-users saying it is better than LaTeX if one learns it properly. - Sundar

I am not sure whether scientific work place, a software platform in Latex, is equally known and used in the scientific community to write scientific documents including mathematics. It is more simplified and avoids uses of combinations of characters to write for instance a mathematical expression. That is what I use to write my mathematics documents. It has different built-in styles such as AMS - style and others.
Regarding the question, I assume international journals support acceptance of manuscripts in software that are used by the majority of the scientific community in order to attract submissions.
I think that journals just try to standardize procedure of the paper evaluation, that's why they prefer most popular formats. So far, Microsoft and LaTeX are two most popular one. So, it is only a question about standard platform: anyway, in the end journal will convert all manuscript to the similar format.

It depends on the journal regulations and request. All are depend on the style the journal want to standardize, In math paper it is easier to use software that help in making equations and symbols more than the available Microsoft.
