usually I do wash them with distilled water immediately after the run. but I have noticed change in the colour of the electrodes. I have also had some problems with my electrophoresis that were fixed only when I used different electrodes ( buffer core ) from another laboratory. So I was wondering if somebody had this problem and how to fix it?
Usually the electrodes are platinum material and shouldn't have salt accumulation or rust if washed with water immediately after use. If its doesn't go with water wash then it is probably rusted due to non-platinum electrodes. Alcohol wash is fine because the transfer buffer has alcohol in it. The other salts in transfer buffer are glycine and Tris which should go in water wash.
