It is known that outbreaks of infectious diseases follow long-term cycles but is it possible that health care costs may also follow such cycles?
Is anyone aware of any research in this area or of research into conditions which follow long-term cycles or undulations?

I think we have to dig deeper into the cost structure of the health care costs. That might us a good look at the patterns of the health care costs. Individual determinants of the health care cost can be studied separately to find a pattern.
one assumption could be that once the health care costs rise, then there is an effort to lower the costs with different strategies. once these are lowered, inflation and rising costs again swell the health care costs.
